Because of its unwavering dedication, and the collective efforts of its staff, Aker Technology corporate headquarters has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, an internationally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement. Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the LEED green building certification program recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.
In order to obtain this prestigious certification, a building project must satisfy prerequisites and earn points related to things like site sustainability, water efficiency, energy performance, materials selection, indoor environmental quality, innovation in design and regional priority. Aker accomplished this through:
- Improved air conditioning and ventilation systems that provide cleaner indoor air
- Implementing comprehensive water reduction and recycling measures
- Enhanced energy efficiency through equipment upgrades and usage monitoring
- Establishing extensive waste sorting and recycling programs
- Prioritized procurement of sustainable materials and supplies
“There are four levels of LEED certification going from lowest to highest – certified, silver, gold and platinum. Obtaining gold certification acknowledges Aker’s excellence in performance in architecture efficiency and GHG mitigation. It also shows our strong commitment to employee health, welfare and productivity,” said Allan Y.L. Lin, Chairman and CEO.
The LEED Gold certification allows Aker to showcase its sustainability efforts, as well as its vision to operate responsibly and reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
"Dedicated to achieving sustainable development goals, Aker Technology has undertaken a range of improvement initiatives in its headquarters building, resulting in significant reductions in energy consumption and reliance on natural resources. In January 2024, the headquarters obtained LEED Gold certification.
Spanning an area of 4,670 square meters, the project implemented ample fresh air systems and efficient filtering equipment, creating a healthier and more comfortable living and working environment for employees and visitors. In terms of water resource management, the project achieved a water usage rate of approximately 2318.6 liters per person per year by deploying water treatment systems and water-saving measures, garnering high scores in the "Water Efficiency" section of the LEED standard. Additionally, the project prioritized material usage and waste management, implementing a comprehensive waste sorting and recycling plan and favoring the purchase of consumables certified with sustainable labels. With three centralized waste collection rooms covering various recycling categories, the project minimized environmental pollution through strict recycling procedures, achieving a commendable 58% recycling rate."
